I’m skeptical that we’ll ever see an M3 Ultra Mac Pro – Tech Live Trends

In his latest Power On newsletter, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman talks about the M3 processor path he thinks Apple has planned. And he thinks that an M3 Ultra Mac Pro may never see the light of day.

Here are some key points in his report:

  • M3: For the base-model MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, Mac mini, and 24-inch iMac, it will feature eight CPU cores and 10 GPU cores.
  • M3 Pro: For the high-end MacBook Pro and Mac mini, it will feature 12 CPU cores and 18 GPU cores for the base model and 14 CPU cores and 20 GPU cores for the top model.
  • M3 Max: For the high-end MacBook Pro and Mac Studio, it will feature 16 CPU cores and 32 GPU cores for the base model and 16 CPU cores and 40 GPU cores for the top model.
  • M3 Ultra: For (possibly) a Mac Studio and Mac Pro, it will feature 32 CPU cores and 64 GPU cores for the base model and 32 CPU cores and 80 GPU cores for the top model.

In his report, Gurman reiterated that the first Macs with the ‌M3‌ chip should debut in October. Those will likely include the 24-inch iMac, Mac mini, 13-inch Mac mini, and (possibly) new 13-inch MacBook Airs.

Gurman thinks Macs with the ‌M3‌ Pro and ‌M3‌ Max chips won’t arrive until 2024 and should include new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros He forecasts that Macs with the ‌M3‌ Ultra chip, such as the next-generation Mac Studio and Mac Pro , may not arrive until the end of 2024 at the earliest “if Apple continues making those.”

The Sellers Research Group (that’s me) thinks we won’t see another version of the Mac Pro. Why? The Mac Studio is generally cheaper to purchase and offers mosts of the advantages of a Mac Pro.
