iOS 17.1 Release Candidate Is Now Available Ahead Of Next Week’s Release
Apple has seeded the iOS 17.1 Release Candidate to developers and it is now available for download to those who are beta testing the upcoming software.
Today’s iOS 17.1 RC comes a week ahead of next week’s public launch of iOS 17.1 and iPadOS 17.1. iOS 17.1 is going to be the first major release of iOS 17 since the public release of iOS 17 last month.
The build number for iOS 17.1 RC is 21B74. Alongside iOS 17.1 RC and iPadOS 17.1 RC, Apple has also released macOS 14.1 RC, watchOS 10.1 RC, and tvOS 17.1 RC.
For older iPhones that do not support iOS 17, Apple has also seeded iOS 16.7.2 RC. This version of iOS 16 will most likely be released along with iOS 17.1 next week.
When it comes to new features iOS 17.1 will introduce some of the features that were missing in iOS 17.0 while also introducing enhancements to other features. For example, iOS 17.1 will finally bring the ability for users to make AirDrop transfers over the Internet in case they have gone out of AirDrop’s range.
iOS 17.1 is bringing new controls for iOS 17’s StandBy feature, allowing users to control how their iPhone’s always-on display behaves. For iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max users, this update adjusts how the Action button works as it will be able to detect if the device is in the user’s pocket and avoid accidental triggers.
If all goes according to plan we can expect iOS 17.1 to launch on October 24.
